A few words about the artist and creator of this
statement in copper and brass.
For Bridgeton NJ artist Duilio Clemente,
metal has been a way of life.
A kindly, older man with glasses and a heavy Italian accent,
the 74 year old Clemente is a native of Adria, Italy and has worked with metal in one form
or another for most of his life.
In Italy he worked as a tinsmith, working with metal roofs and such. His work took him to
Toronto Canada in 1955 where he stayed for 17 years before moving back to Italy where he
lived until 1982 when he came to America. There was little work for a tinsmith in this
part of the world and he worked different jobs over the years but kept working with copper
and brass as a hobby in his spare time. He bought his tools in Philadelphia and began a
life of creating all types of intricate pieces of artwork and replicas in his
showroom-workshop in his backyard. He created scale models of the Eiffel Tower and the
Leaning Tower of Pisa along with several unique vases and carved plates and such. After a
visit to the local library and seeing the pictures and books of the Statue of Liberty his
mind was made up he was going to create a Statue of Liberty of his very own. Over five
years later this is his creation.
And Now He Hopes To Make It Yours...
